Konnichiwa everyone... This thread is very sad indeed, make sure to have tissues with you...and I'm not just sayin' that...Today is the day of Souji Okita's death...where he died alone in the face of battle, as records state. It was mainly the help of his desease, Tuberculosis...He was a great young man, who should have never deserved to die at that age...I'm not absolutely crazy about Okita, But I respect him the most out of all the Shinsengumi members...I even have tears in my eyes right now...Please everyone, Give him your blessings and pray for him in his behalf...

Yep, it's really sad... but I thought he died alone in an Edo hospital of his illness while his Miburou pals are fighting for their lives literally in Hokkaido? *Sniffles* Puts some iris flowers on Okita's grave. ((Iris = Blessings of those who believe; heard that from somewhere, SPIRAL I think. It's really symbolic, considering Okita & the others, Shinsengumi or otherwise, really believed in what they are fighting for. Even when they knew they were doomed to lose the war.))

Okita died while in the Edo TB hospital in the first year of the Meiji. He was said to have killed a black cat as his final actions. Why did he?
Sense his birthday is unknown I celebrate his deathday as if it were his birthday. I put up a great shrine which consitsts of Okita statues, plushies, posters, flowers, my jutte etc etc. I then pour sake on my statue of him. Then I perform the Sandanzuki while fully clothed as a Shinsengumi. Then I watch hours upon hours of Samurai X, PMK, and Fu-un Bakumatsu-den video clips.
I am not kidding. I am this obsessed

Maybe said cat got overboard with the catcalls & Okita felt obliged to kill it the way I feel like skinning my neighbor's Siamese & feeding the leftovers to my little wolf-hound... juz joking.
Japanese Supersition: Black cats keep the devil away.
Can think of any reason poor kitty got killed?

Try a couple of sleepless nights with a feline 'Romeo' serenading every tabby in the neighborhood & you'll start feeling mean.

(Just trying to make some cheerfullness out of the sad. Besides sense his birthday is unknown why no celebrate his deathday?)

Okita's real name was Hanamura, according to certain sources. His father was 'adopted' into his mother's family. Both parents died when he was still a young boy & he wound up working as a page at the Kondo household as his sisters could not afford to keep him.
((According to my bro: "All elder sisters are witches." Mmm... Excuse us, me & my sis have some unfinished business with our dear baby bro...))
