Hey everyone... This is a very sad and emtional post, or to me it is anyway... Its mainly just about how the Shinsengumi fell in the long army. Everyone one of them died. All accept for three. One of them Being Hajime Saitou, Another Sanosuke Harada, and last...Shinpachi Nagakura. After a little while, the three departed. And were forced to never see eachother again. After some time, Sano was banished to China and started a group of bandits. Saitou went and did the under cover up fujitama goro, but then he died of a stomach ulcer from too much drinking... Shinpachi led a more peaceful life, though it was not a real happy one truth be told. he wrote a book called: Shinsen-gumi Tenmatsuki Saitou's co-worker wrote his his book. He said: "Mr. Saitou saw to a few and did away with them in rapid succesion with a lunge, his special art." On a terror raid by royalists from Satsuma, Choshu and Tosa clans in fall in 1867 on Yasushi Miura, a great talent of Kishu clan, who was selected as a member of the house of Peers there after, when Shinsengumi Company patrolled. He was left handed and good at the lunge with his left hand. just a breif summery of the book. The book also explains what Shinpachi's experiences were like being in the Shinsengumi. It is very tragic, his words. If you want proof to know that I am not lying, then go here: www.sasugabooks.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_12&products_id=31657&osCsid=57a7992e036d5f21868f80605cea93ab

Ah well, there's a saying from somewhere...
"The sword is a double-edged weapon. It hurts the one who wields it as well as the one it is wielded against."
In a way, I sorta expect no happy endings, which are few in real life anyhows.
By the way, was Ichimura Tetsunosuke aka redhead loudmouth page to the Demon based on a actual character?

Wow! I live within 20 minutes of that store! I did some research on the endings myself and found it sad how the Shinsengumi gradually disbanded. Hijikata died while defending his own country in Hokkaido. If you want to read some excelent books on the bakumatsu that are in english then I suggest reading Ryoma by Romulus Hilsburough or Hilsburough's new Shinsengumi book. I have only read Ryoma. WARNING: Ryoma is a very long biography lasting about 2000 pages long but I loved every page of it. ;D

Yes, Ryouma's quite a historical figure. I was a bit let down by the anime portrayal of him (reckless thrill-seeker). However, the PMK graphic novel did him some justice. He has a key figure in the modernization of Japan. First naval academy (got closed by the Shogunate), first trading firm aka gun running front... and he got the Choshu and Satsuma clans to quit trying to tear out each other's throats and unite against the pro-Shogunate front.

Even more amazing is that he achieved a three way alliance with his home domain Tosa with the Satsuma and Choshu! He was killed a few days after Tokugawa Yoshinobu gave up rule, by the Mimawarigumi. My 8th grade biography presentation was on him and my Teacher said I had the best one she had ever seen. It was also really fun that on the presentation day we had to dress up and walk around the entire school from class to class as our character! 'Scuse me samurai walkin' through...
